The GAMING Community.

Hi, I just finished some work, and suddenly wanted to talk about the gaming community.

You see, gamers are not exactly anti-social people who just sit behind a keyboard and... that's it. NO. Gamers have a life, and us gamers form a community.

Be it whatever game we indulge in, the gaming community is always a key source of information, and also to let you know that you are not alone in this game. Perhaps, it's the only thing that keeps you playing the game.

We've got hundreds of gaming community. One of the most well known one would be, of course Garena. Garena started out as 'GG-Client', which is a platform where gamers of all different games come together, and to play on this VPN platform called 'GGC'. I was one of the first few users I think, or not. But I remember the time where there is no players on 'GGC' at all. My first time using it was with Jayexa, playing a game of War3 standard.

But today, Garena is a platform for pretty much most of the well known games. DotA, WC3, CS:S, CS1.6, AoE, SC:BW (Not Starcraft II of course). Yea. Let's talk about these communities first.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DotA

The good old days:

The load screen for the first few version:

Nice eh? Simple concept. Two sides of the map: Sentinel and Scourge. 5 players on each side. Purpose of the game is to destroy the Tree of Life/Frozen Throne. Before everybody started to find out more about this map, DotA was just another small mini-game on War3. Not really mini-game, but it's a custom map. Sidetracking from what War3 was made for, the Standard RTS game. Guinsoo did it. DotA came out, and soon it was IceFrog. Nobody had a clue what was last hit, all just started to play by auto-attacking, dying and auto-attacking again. Not much strategies. Though there were builds which totally dominates (It was pretty imbalanaced). BUT, as the game progresses, it went viral. Many people knew about it and today, this is how it looks like:

Sweet huh? The community, yes I'm going into it. If you are a DotA player, you would understand how the DotA community is like right now. (In Singapore particularly) I'm generalizing, but since I'm always playing 5v pubs with my friends, I'd say the number of people who play to win are increasing drastically. What do I mean? 5 minutes into the game you see a message:

Tatster has pwned n00b for 250 gold.
Tatster has drawn FIRST BLOOD! (+250 gold)

Familiar? Then next thing you see...

n00b(Lanaya) has left the game.

Yea! Celebrate. Then soon you will see...

n00b2(Mirana) has left the game.

THEN you will see...

n00b3 (Techies): Switch?

Nobody switches...

n00b3(Techies) has left the game.

And there we have it, a spoilt game. This is the DotA community. Self-explanatory. K next. (I'm skipping a lot, straight up to CS, then last one will end off with SC2)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Counter-strike!

Another great game that was frequently seen in LAN parties. It's unquestionable. CS 1.6 is the best FPS ever made. What could be better than killing off people with guns? (Isn't that what FPS is about ._.) Most of all, CS 1.6's community is very... very... very... I'm not sure how to describe it. Mostly filled with impatient people.

The mic function in CS made communication during the game so easy. But on the other hand people start cussing their ass off whenever they got blocked or AWP-ed straight in the face. It's okay to rage, but please know when to stop. The CS community is of course, one of those with the most skilled players. (Duh, FPS just requires so much practice to be good at it.)

Yada yada yada. I shall stop talking about CS 1.6.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starcraft 2. The most recent game that I bought, (well which of those above did I even buy. LOL) and actually enjoyed playing it for quite a while. It's a well S$89.99, but I do think it's worth every cent of your money.

Of course, I shall skip the part about gameplay, let's talk about the community.

During the SCBW days, most people are extremely obsessed with SC, some people are classified as Starcraft 'nerds'. Well that's true, there was this guide book which came out with SCBW battle chest, it was called... I forgot what was it called. But it had almost all the strategies and counters to all sorts of gameplay in the game. Well, here's the overview of the community. (I'm only going to say one, and only one thing.)

Friendly players. Very friendly.

They are not those of "FUCK YOU WHY DID YOU WIN ME" or "YOUR MUM HAS A P3N1S". No, people who play Starcraft 2 are very well mannered. Often games end with a 'GG' or just a 'Lol :( gg'. Very rare occasions that you see people cussing while leaving the game.

Kudos to Blizzard for developing the Battle.Net 2.0. And of course the hefty price of S$89.99. (Really, I doubt kids will buy it) Explains everything. ;)

Once I met this player who actually told me after I won him. "Well, gg. At least I learnt smth new today ;)"

Don't you love that warmth and pleasure gaming experience? I don't know, I'm not some hardcore gamer who sits in front of the computer all day long and grind on it. I'm just a casual gamer.

Yea! I mean, look around you at the gaming communities, how many of those do you actually really know? I don't know all either, I'm just giving my point of view of these 3 gaming communities. It's really very saddening to know that some people stereotype gamers are 'nerds who sit behind the computer 24-7' or 'keyboard warriors'.

We have a life, we have social skills (online and offline). Most of all, we have a vibrant gaming community to support what we want, and what we need. To all gamers out there, have fun! :D

Siblings

Hello guys, I'm back for yet another post about siblings.

I just got back from charms house and am really surprised and awed by how much siblings can affect you.

Being born single child, I have no idea how siblings would have an impact on my life. I guess in my circle of friends, I'm the only single child. It's kinda hard to tell whether it's good or bad. Tat often tells me to treasure my life because I'm single child, nobody is snatching my stuff etc. But from what I feel, I think having an elder brother/sister will greatly affect my behavior and personality. How do I put it, it's always good to have a person at home whom you can talk to and share your troubles with.

Whenever I return home, I go back to an empty house until my parents reach home. I guess that's about it for my home life. It's a warm and cosy home because my parents made it so, but I'm sure that if I'm expecting another brother/sister to come home, it'll be awesome.

Of course some may think that I 生在福中不知福, but the 福 that I'm looking at right now is another type, which I really can't feel right now.

Yeap. I need to take a shower. I just got back from Charms house and I'm totally drenched, because right after I stepped out of her void deck, IT STARTED TO RAIN HEAVILY. -.-

Oh, I'll update a bit more about the first day of school later. Ciao!

------------------Do expect something more below----------------------

Alright! Here's the additional post and promised.

First day of school today, yea... Let's see... I think it went okay for me? Because most of the time today in school I'm studying already. (What?) I shouldn't be wasting anymore time since I've wasted nearly my entire holidays away.

I spent all my money on buying the chem notes for the class, that I have no more money left to eat. Lucky Mr Yuen gave me some money from the collection of Goggles money. I've got not much money to buy notes anyway, so I'll buy them tomorrow. Spent 2 bucks on my lunch which was 老鼠粉 with a chicken? Hmm...

Yea! Then proceeded to watch Supersize Me! during GP. Honestly I don't understand why are we always watching movies. Next time GP lesson if there's a new movie, I shall opt to read the article that Mr Wang prepared for us instead. I think it'll be more productive. I don't really gain much from the video other than entertainment. GP is now like some entertainment lesson instead.

Another great song to enjoy people!

Alright that's it, I'm currently waiting for charms to finish studying. While doing some work of my own as well... Hmm haven't finish yet...

Ciao!

Yet Another End of a Holiday

Hi guys, it's another end of the holidays and unlike my holiday in 2009 (O level year), this time is different.

I should have been studying, which I did for a bit, but it doesn't feel as fulfilling as it should have. I'm still rushing to study for a chemistry test which could be tomorrow. I don't care la, just study. Organic, what could go wrong in organic? It's full memory with a bit of thinking.

AND it's not that much either. Yup! The last day of holidays, studying. Grats to Tatster for deleting his Facebook account and Garena, hope it'll last long this time.

School work's back, I'm not going to waste time at home anymore. That's a good thing. Plus I've signed up for a GP tuition at Jurong East, hope that works well too. Oh! I need to do my GP holiday assignment as well, or else Mr Wang would kill me tomorrow. Actually I've already done it. But there's this few comprehension passages that I didn't do. Dang.

Update you guys sooner or later, maybe tomorrow to whine about something.

Tata.

Dedicated to the Jayexa

Come guys, if you all wanna see a fresh new blog, please go visit Jayexa!

His blogskin was made by himself, not bad eh. PM me for his number. ;) Gold ranked SC2 player, heading towards WCG soon. DotA pro, comparable to YaphetS/YamateH. Could have easily beaten the shit out of anybody with his Muay Thai. Go check him out. LOL

Yea go check it out, awesome blog and I liked the recent post about Nerd Rage. LOL cool shit. K really ciao, I'm off to get some work done before I go for another ladder game of SC2 (Yeah I'm a noob bronze.)

Tagboard

I took the tagboard away. Not because I find that more pro, it's because the spam messages are annoying me.

Got anything to say, just write in the comments section. (I sound like I'm broadcasting something in YouTube lol)

Yea. Ciao

Oh and I changed the blogsong but it can't autoplay anymore. Because the new YouTube embed don't allow it to autoplay. Oh well.

JJC Open House

If you are kinda enthu about JJC, please don't read this post. If you read it, don't sue me for anything, since I've already told you not to read it.

Alright here's the issue. I just got an sms from my classmate that the teacher has chosen me to be the USHER for JJC Open House 2011. YAY. FUCK NO.

Why no? Shouldn't I love the school and support it? How about this, let the students decide whether they want to volunteer or not. I'm sure lots and lots of people (I'm looking at you councilors) would want to usher people around. Or perhaps OGL who thinks that JJ is so awesome.

Honestly, I'm not very into this and I don't really care. But since it's the teachers who chose me, what can I do? Hah it's dumb eh? 12th Jan, just nice it's a Wednesday. I'm having external CCA! :D So that means I'm not able to make it! Aha! That's nice. I'm going to explain to my teacher later on.

Hopefully it's gonna be a positive reply and he's gonna choose somebody else for it. I mean who loves to usher people around in JJC? I'll probably go:

"Hi Madam, this is our school and it has the state-of-the-art *ehem* facilities with wonderful students around." And then right after that there'll be two students hurling vulgarities at each other walking past us.

Oh isn't that so good? Just nice that the O level results are coming out soon, those considering JJC, you are to reconsider. I'm not here to ask you to not come to JJC. I'm not hating on JJC. I'm just saying what I think, an opinion from a person who has already experienced one year of JC life in JJ.

Pretty sure you've heard JJ's fantastic orientation? Yea, I have to admit it's fantastic if I didn't feel so sad about entering JJC (which I still am). Anyway, a fantastic orientation for you would mean 3 days of fun, the rest of your 2 years in JC will be hell. You don't want that do you?

Look around for better JCs! I'm sure there are. Heed my advice people. Do reconsider. I'll see you at the open house if I'm really forced to go. Because on Monday there's a meeting at 3.30pm. I got something on. That's bullshit, I'm not going to be any usher. JJ's got a whole lot of OGL and council members to use don't they. Why'd they drag the students in.

Don't force, ask for volunteers. If there's none, well then that proves there's really something wrong with the school. 70% of the students hate their own school. That's bullshit statistics. But hell, I'm pretty sure people with some sense will know what to do. ;)

Cheers, bye.

For Tatster

JUST FOR YOU TATSTER!
